One of the relatively lesser-known attractions in Quy Nhon, Vietnam, Hon Kho Island offers an ideal hideaway in which to enjoy relaxation and fun activities amidst the sand and the surf.
You will have to travel to the Nhon Hai fishing village around 15 km from the city centre. An ideal place to visit on excursions from properties such as Anantara Quy Nhon Villas, the island is around a 20-minute boat ride from the village.March to September, when the seas are calmer, is generally the best period to visit.
The beach on Hon Kho Island is a lovely spot to unwind, soak up the sun or go for a swim. One of the best things to do is snorkelling with corals visible close to the shore at depths of only one to two metres. When coming here from your Quy Nhon hotel, bring your snorkelling gear and GoPro or underwater camera too!
Don’t forget to sample some of the fresh seafood specialities on offer be it fish, lobsters, snails or “CauGai”dishes made from sea urchin. Some resorts in Quy Nhon will even organise gourmet picnic hampers that you can take with you and enjoy amidst the laid-back charm of Hon Kho Island.
Travellers looking for more enriching experiences can plan an overnight camping trip on the island which is a turtle conservation centre too. Depending on when you visit, you have a chance to spot turtles at night as they come ashore to lay their eggs.
