Vietnam has a rich history and many local heroes who battled to keep the country free; one such person is Quang Trung and his story along with his brothers are revealed in the Quang Trung Museum.
Planning a Visit
The museum can be found in the Binh Dinh province of Vietnam around 43 km from Quy Nhon; hotel and resort options in this area including the likes of Anantara Quy Nhon Villas are ideal for an excursion to the site which is generally open from 7:30am to 11:30am and 1:30pm to 5:00pm
A National Hero
Quang Trung Nguyen Hue was one of the three Tay Son brothers who led peasant insurrections in the 18th century; this later became a more national movement defeating invaders from foreign lands. Opened in 1978, the museum is on the site of the home of these brothers who founded the Tay Son Rebellion.
Before entering the site, you will come across a tamarind tree believed to have been planted by the brothers and an ancient well. Within the museum, one can learn more about Quang Trung and observe all manner of exhibits dating back to the 18th century; these include costumes, battle drums made with elephant skins, official seals, documents and more.
At the Quang Trung Museum, you can also witness performances of a traditional martial art known as “Vo Binh Dinh”performed with bamboo sticks. Also on display are military drum performances, another part of the rich heritage of the Tay Son period.
