Amongst the key attractions in Oman, the Royal Opera House Muscat is well worth a visit even if you can’t take in a performance at this magnificent venue.

Getting There

This site can be found on Al Kharjiyah Street in Muscat’s Shati Al-Qurm District, only around a 12-minute drive from Al Falaj Hotel. Also here is the Opera Galleria (more on that later!) that has cafes and restaurants that usually open around 8:00am and shops that you can peruse from 10:00am onwards.

A Remarkable Sight

The exteriors and interiors of this opera house will leave you in awe and taking it all in, is amongst the most captivating things to do in Muscat. Opened in 2011, it features Islamic and Italianate design styles with both contemporary and traditional elements. Inside the marble exteriors, are crystal chandeliers, ornate wood carvings and an elegant blend of glass and gold.

Diverse Performances

Equally impressive is the main theatre which incorporates modern technology; during the annual season (September to June), it hosts a range of performances which can include opera, musicals, theatre, classical music, jazz and ballet. Notable past performers include Andrea Bocelli and Plácido Domingo while famous opera and dance companies have also been hosted.
