Liwa Oasis
This lush green spot in a sea of desert is known for its breathtaking scenery and tranquil surroundings that give way to historical forts and date plantations. It carries the essence of Abu Dhabi without the modern streets and skyscrapers.
Sir Bani Yas Island
It may be a little further away, but this island will surprise anyone who decides to visit or even base their stay there at the likes of Anantara Al Yamm Villa Resort. While it’s known for the Arabian Wildlife Park, the island is also home to 42 excavation sites and the ancient Nestorian monastery, one of the lesser known tourist attractions in Abu Dhabi.
Al Wathba Fossil Dunes
This geological wonder is a great example of nature’s artistry, where age-old limestone and sand structures stand tall. The best time to visit is at sunset, when the gentle breeze and the breathtaking views from the formations make the perfect backdrop for a few photos or even an easy stroll.
Jubail Mangrove Park
A peaceful nature park located close to the centre of the city, Jubail Mangrove Park is filled with lush mangroves that are home to several birds. Boardwalks double as scenic viewing platforms for the mangroves, while the birdwatching area is where you’ll spot colourful species flitting about.
