While Galle, Sri Lanka is known for its colonial Dutch Fort, this city and district are also home to truly picturesque beaches; here are some that you should visit.

Unawatuna Beach

Soft golden sands bordered by azure waters await those venturing to the idyllic shores of Unawatuna Beach set amidst swaying palm trees. It’s a great spot to work on your tan, enjoy a swim in the ocean or try some snorkelling. There are sunbeds available for rent and beachside bars to savour your favourite cocktails too.

Habaraduwa Beach

Habaraduwa Beach offers coastal seclusion that can be enjoyed at a beachside boutique hotel. Galle offers such luxurious accommodation at properties like KK Beach; you can spend your days lazing on pristine palm-fringed sands, engage in water sports, visit the local sea turtle hatchery and catch magical sunsets.

Jungle Beach

True to its name, Jungle Beach can be reached by a path through the jungle! The first part of the beach is where you will find most people, though further along are more deserted spots. The calm waters here are perfect for swimming and snorkelling, while you can also visit the nearby Japanese Peace Pagoda on Rumassala Hill.

Koggala Beach

Another of the top beaches in Galle District, Koggala Beach features quite a long stretch of shore dotted with palm trees. It’s a great spot to just lie back and soak up the sun, while you will find some opportunities for snorkelling and surfing too. While here, you may also see some of Sri Lanka’s unique stilt fishermen.
