Located in eastern China, Wuxi is the kind of city where you can look forward to rewarding exploration to gain insights into the country’s fascinating history. Here’s a sneak peek at some key sites you need to add to your itinerary.

The Grand Canal
What some travellers may not realise is that a section of the famed Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal actually runs through part of the city. Suffice it to say that one of the top things to do in Wuxi is to explore the area in and around this section, where you will get a glimpse of riverside life. Look to visit the area around the historical Qingming Bridge, where you will find traditional houses, wharfs, streets and temples, some of which date to the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Huishan Ancient Town
Those based at properties like Grand Park Wuxi, part of Park Hotel Group, can easily plan a visit to Huishan Ancient Town for more captivating discoveries. You will get the feeling you have stepped back in time as you explore this area at the base of Huishan Mountain. It can be described as somewhat of an open-air museum where you will come across sites like Huishan Temple, Jinlian Bridge and Huishan Spring, as well as idyllic gardens and ancestral halls.

Xihui Park
Combining culture with natural beauty, Xihui Park is another of the key attractions in Wuxi that beckons intrepid travellers. The setting amidst mountain views adds to the charm of this picturesque area, which is home to temples and historical sites, too. Of course, one of the most popular attractions here is Jichang Garden that dates to the Ming Dynasty, which features a tranquil pool set amidst halls, pavilions and an artificial hill.

Nanchan Temple
Another site linked with Wuxi’s storied past, Nanchan Temple, was rebuilt during the Tang Dynasty, over 1,200 years ago. The pagoda here towers above, and you can, for a fee, climb to the top to enjoy some lovely views.  Apart from taking in the traditional architecture of the temple, you will find that the surrounding area offers much to experience as well, including the chance to buy everything from distinct handicrafts to yummy snacks.
