Admit it; the number of times you may have drooled looking at images of overwater villas when skimming through brochures and websites. If only we could stay in one of those during the next holiday… You are not alone. Numerous travel enthusiasts have overwater villas on their bucket lists. And you should too!

Given the vast number of golden beaches and picture-perfect setting, in Maldives, villas are a preferred choice for travellers. Overwater villas are extremely popular as they offer uninterrupted views of the sun, sea and sky, the complete “island life” experience. Combine that with world-class service and amazing cuisine, and you are on the perfect holiday.

Overwater villas offer ample space for indoor and outdoor lounging. The latter is on a spacious sundeck taking in spectacular views of the Indian Ocean. Resorts such as Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives even offer hammock facilities for you to spend you afternoon lazing around, basking in the awesome, year round weather that only the Maldives can boast of.

In some resorts, overwater villas are located at the furthest end of the island, resulting in you having to take quite walk to access other amenities. When making your booking, ensure that the villa you have in mind is, in fact, the same as what’s promised on the website and also that you are not completely isolated from the rest of the resort. However, if complete isolation is what you after, this may not be too relevant for you.

A key fact to remember is that although many websites promote overwater villas, only a handful of them are worth it. This is due to the fact that very few islands are naturally equipped to house overwater villas. The Maldives, with its myriad of island resorts, is one such country where you can travel to, to knock off one item from your bucket list – holidaying at a spectacular overwater villa.
