A region that is home to a number of historically significant destinations – Dambulla, is also famous for its extensive range of wildlife. Part of the region belonging to Minneriya wildlife reserve, Dambulla is one of the many places in the country to witness the Sri Lankan elephant.

Overview

The fabled rock fortress of Kashyapa known by the name Sigiriya is located in Dambulla and the region surrounding the rocky outcrop has been declared a protected reserve. It is home to a plethora of animals and plants some of which are endemic. The reserve also features spots that boast stunning natural beauty and visiting here will certainly be a worthwhile experience if you embark on a wildlife safari.

Flora and Fauna
